“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
This is the theme scripture for the 2017 CLASS Christian Writers Contreat. As Christian communicators, writers and speakers, or those who aspire to be, it is important that we take ownership of our calling. It is more than just an idea that popped into our head one day, more than a dream in our heart.
As followers of Christ we have been called, called to share the message of Jesus with our world. While this may be a surprise to the believer, after all how or why would God use us, it is no surprise to God. He used the prophet Jeremiah to share this message with His people and that message is as real today as it was in Jeremiah’s time.
What does it mean to be called? God has placed a passion in the heart of each of His children. For some it’s to speak, for other’s it’s to write. It’s a burning desire to share His message. That message comes in many forms. Of course, it starts with the message of salvation. But it can also be a message of hope, perseverance, or victory. The message you have to share with the world can transform lives, heal broken hearts, offer hope to the hopeless.
That is why God tell us, “Before you were born I consecrated you.” Set you apart for a purpose. He has a plan.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of Him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
Proclaim the mighty acts, that’s your story.
God appointed us to be prophets. That seems a bit intimidating to those of us who consider ourselves ordinary. Yet, it’s really very simple. God called ordinary people like you and me to deliver his message in ordinary ways to other ordinary people.
I think of authors like DiAnn Mills who will be teaching at the Writers Contreat. DiAnn writes fiction. You may ask yourself how would a suspense novel share the message of Christ. Read one of DiAnn’s books and you’ll find out. And what’s more is that a novel may reach someone that a book on salvation may never reach. God uses DiAnn’s passion for writing and sharing His message in fiction form to plant seeds that someone else may nurture. You can do the same thing.
So, if you accept the calling that God has placed on your life, if you believe that you are consecrated, set apart and appointed to be His prophet, what are you doing about it?
I want to encourage you, right now, to stop and pray. Share your heart, your fears, your concerns with the One who loves you most. Ask Him to show you how to embrace your calling and move forward with His plans for you.
Then I want to invite you to join us for the 2017 CLASS Christian Writers Contreat, November 8 – 11. You will be surrounded by like-minded people who are working towards the same goals. You will receive excellent teaching from some of the best faculty around. And you will be encouraged to accomplish the plan God has for you.
